Power lifting is River Valley’s newest sport

River Valley’s newest competitive sport is power lifting. High school teacher Joseph Woodhouse is the coach for the team. The seven students currently competing are Reagan Sackett, Hannah Burchfield, Gavin Graves, Alex Garcia, Sebastian Histed, Hayden Tafs and Isaac Ziebarth.  The first competition was the regional competition held in Mauston on February 10. Sackett took second place in the 123 pound weight class. Graves took second place in the 132 pound weight class. Tafs took first place in the 189 pound weight class.  The second competition was the Riverdale “Last Chance” regional meet on February 17. Burchfield took first place in the 181 pound weight class. Tafs took first place in the 198 pound weight class, qualifying for state. Graves took second place in the 148 pound weight class. Histed took second place in the 181 pound weight class.  This weekend is the Wisconsin State Powerlifting competition in Appleton at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center.
