River Valley girls basketball team takes three losses

The River Valley High School varsity girls basketball team played three games this past week. Monday night the girls started their competition for the week playing Sauk Prairie at home.  “River Valley started out hot,” said head coach Darrell Parrish. “Breaking Sauk Prairie’s press and scoring seven points in a row. Sauk called  a timeout. Sauk then hit three threes in a row and went on a run.”  The final score was 57-26 Sauk Prairie taking the win. Karina Osborn and Brooklyn Stokes led the Hawks with seven and six points respectively.  River Valley hosted Lancaster on Thursday night next. Lancaster started the game out fast and kept going. Stokes brought in seven points for Valley with Addie Lilla bringing six points. Lancaster won the game 71-23. Friday night the girls hosted Potosi in a game that was originally scheduled for January. Parrish described the game saying,  “The game started out close with each team exchanging the lead. Potosi went on a 10-0 run. River Valley was able to cut the lead to seven at halftime. River Valley was unable to cut lead to less than seven during the second half. The game became a free throw contest with each team fouling quite often in the second half.”  River Valley was led by Stokes with 18 points. Osborn and Lilla brought in 15 and 14 points each. Final score was 72-58 Potosi.  This week the girls began their state bid with the first regional game of the season in Walworth against Big Foot High School.
