Goal No. 1 has been achieved. Now, Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team can focus on even bigger and better. The Eagles went 4-1 at the Badger Small Conference tournament last Saturday, with their only loss coming to Madison Edgewood.

Vanguards win fourth straight

Back on Sept. 13, when Wisconsin Heights’ 8-man football team had lost two straight games, Vanguards coach Connor Herrling made a bold prediction. “I told this team four weeks ago that we are going to win out,” Herrling said. Now, Herrling and the Vanguards are just one win from making that happen.

Vanguards’ soccer team seeded ninth

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer team received the No. 9 seed in their sectional and will travel to eighth-seeded Central Christian Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in a regional semifinals. If the Vanguards win there, they’d travel to top-seeded Lake Country Lutheran for a regional final Oct. 26.

Despite defeat, Heights spikers are big winners

Wisconsin Heights’ girls volleyball team might have dropped a 3-0 decision to Marshall on Oct. 8. But the Vanguards — and Breast Cancer Recovery of Dane County — were both big winners. The Vanguards hosted Dig Pink Night and raised more than $2,000 for breast cancer.

Eagles’ soccer team receives No. 2 seed

If Drew Kornish is anything, he’s honest. Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer coach was candid and straight forward when discussing the week that was for his Eagles. “There isn’t much to say,” Kornish said. No there wasn’t. The Eagles dropped a pair of games and fell to 6-9-2 overall and 4-2 in the Badger Small Conference.

Sauk Prairie’s girls tennis team sent two girls to the WIAA Division 1 Middleton Sectional on Oct. 9. Unfortunately for the Eagles, their seasons ended there.

Eagles’ runners fare well in Rapids

Sauk Prairie’s girls cross country team finished in sixth place at the 12-team Wisconsin Rapids Invitational last Saturday. Sauk Prairie’s boys were 11th overall.

Vanguards’ boys XC team eighth at Riverdale Invite

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys cross country team finished in eighth place at the 19-team Riverdale Invitational on Oct. 12. Boscobel won the team title with 68 points. The Vanguards finished with 228 points. Travis Dreikosen led Heights/Barneveld with a 15th place finish. He completed the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 45.20 seconds.

Silverwolves fall 8-3 Saturday in 8-man football to Kickapoo/LaFarge

It was Homecoming week at Wonewoc-Center High School as the Wonewoc-Center/Weston Silverwolves hosted Kickapoo/LaFarge Saturday afternoon. The home team had several prime scoring opportunities throughout the game but couldn’t take advantage and it resulted in a frustrating 8-3 loss in Ridge and Valley eight-man football action.
