Dear editor,   I would like to thank those that came out to give blood on Saturday, Aug 7th. Turnout was extremely low, however they were able to collect 34 units. A BIG thank you to the first-time donors. And a HUGE thank you to those who answered the call on Saturday and walked in. If you are eligible to give blood, please do so, as there is a great need. The next local blood drive is Wednesday, October 13th, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., at Wisconsin Heights High School.  Thank you,   Stacie Prochaska Midland UMC   To the Star News readers:   Thank you to Wisconsin Heights school board members Angela Wolf and Michael Wagner who exercised common sense and voted against a mask mandate for children 4K through grade 6 when school begins this fall. Thank you for wanting to give parents a choice. Forcing a four-year-old to cover his or her face with a mask all day is neither warranted according to data, nor is it practical. There is no way young children will wear a mask properly for hours at a time five days a week. At best, masking children is an impediment to learning and socialization, with additional psychological and physical affects that will no doubt come out in future studies. You have one opportunity to introduce a kindergartener to school and this is not the way to do it. Thank you to all the school board members who serve, but please remember it is your responsibility to set policy for the district and represent the electorate, not rubber stamp recommendations from administration. Administrators are paid by taxpayers to carry out the policies you set. I invite the school board to rethink the mask mandate prior to the school start.    J. Klett Town of Black Earth
