Dear editor, I have just written to President Joe Biden recommending that he propose financing solar and wind generating power to small villages and towns in the US to replace oil and gas-generated power. I understand that Aliant Energy is considering something of this kind, but at the same time increasing the rates they will charge. It is well known that Spring Green and Plain both have empty land that can be used for solar arrays that would supply both villages with all the electric power we need without relying on Aliant’s huge arrays and natural gas which is also a generator of CO2 and methane.  There are thousands of villages like ours in Wisconsin and the rest of the country that could benefit from generating their own power and significantly contribute to reducing global warming while at the same time providing jobs and improving air quality. Both of our villages and others in Sauk County could lead the way in contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and improving our quality of life. Our two villages have abundant trees that provide abundant oxygen, but do not lend themselves to individual rooftop arrays, hence the further advantages of providing solar on vacant land within village limits.
