Matt Rothschild to speak at local redistricting event

On Saturday, October 9, Indivisible Sauk Prairie will host Redistricting for 2022, a free, informative event starting at 10:00 a.m. Speaking at the event will be Matt Rothschild, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and former editor of The Progressive magazine. It will be held at Park Hall (Freethinkers’ Hall), 307 Polk St, Sauk City. The voting rights of Americans across the country are under attack. Many states have passed laws making it more difficult to vote. The Wisconsin legislature has proposed laws like these. Wisconsin also has very gerrymandered voting districts. In recent elections, democratic candidates have received around 50% of the vote yet only around 35% of those candidates are elected. Matt Rothschild will be speaking on protecting voting rights and ending gerrymandering. He will be taking questions from the audience after. Prior to joining the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign at the start of 2015, Rothschild worked at The Progressive magazine for 32 years. For most of that time, he served as the editor and publisher. Rothschild is a frequent guest on WORT, WPR, and WOJB, and his op-eds appear in the Cap Times, Urban Milwaukee, the Wisconsin State Journal, and The Wisconsin Examiner. This fall, the University of Wisconsin Press is publishing his latest book: “12 Ways to Save Democracy in Wisconsin.”  Indivisible Sauk Prairie is pleased to host this free event for area communities. The group will also be presenting information about their activities. Refreshments will be served. Masks will be required, except while eating. All are welcome to join this casual, informative event at the beautiful and historic Park Hall.
