Dear editor, On Friday night, October 22, Tracy Thaden and I worked at the Spring Green Fire/EMS Station to give vaccines to dozens of people in our area - alongside with many other of our local volunteer crew that does testing and vaccines here at home every week.  There was just enough Pfizer vaccine left over in the vials that we both got our boosters, too.  Yeah!! We stopped at a downtown restaurant on the way home for some food and got exceptional service from the moment we walked in.   The food was great and we have a box “to go” for a whole second meal on Saturday. The owners of the restaurant picked up our tab for our excellent meal.   Thank you all here in Spring Green for supporting Tracy and I the last four months since her crash. Tracy proudly wore her Spring Green EMS yellow jacket to keep warm and I think she will be wearing that jacket on call to respond to emergency calls again very soon - thanks to all for your support in her healing. Tracy had asked her physical therapist at Prairie du Sac several weeks ago to help her regain her strength and abilities to be able to respond as an EMT again. She is working out every day and making amazing progress. Tracy will be a way better EMT when she returns to service soon. Sometimes - everything goes right.   Jim Birkemeier  Spring Green   Dear editor, Last year, I was looking at different non-profit organizations to make a donation. I was specifically looking at Amazon wish lists. I picked one and recruited our three adult children and my mom to pitch in. We were able to purchase 20 items off their list. I thought, “WOW! What an impact.” This led me to wonder if I could recruit five to 10 friends and ask them to help support a different Wisconsin non-profit each month and make a difference within these organizations. I contacted my friend Dianne. We came up with a name and started a Facebook page, Our Monthly Resolution. We have had tremendous response. Our October non-profit is Ben Jackson Foundation. The foundation provides funds for service people to make a trip home to visit family and friends after they have been assigned to their first permanent location. Travel expenses can be cost-prohibitive and cover a substantial portion of what younger enlisted personnel earn in a month. The Foundation budgets $500 per Ticket Home Award for domestic travel. With the upcoming holidays, we thought it would be great for Our Monthly Resolution to fund as many of these tickets home as possible.  Our goal is to fund 4 domestic tickets. We have indicated that we prefer our funds be used to bring Wisconsin service people home.
