Dear editor, I have been a resident of the Westwood subdivision for the past 20 years. Our lot borders the Spring Green Estates trailer court (owned by Marvin Gardens Apartments LLC) where I have friends. I am also a new member of the Town of Spring Green Plan Commission.  I am in full support of the need for more pedestrian and bike friendly pathways in our neighborhood. The town has recently given approval for a feasibility and cost estimate from Jewell & Assoc. for this project. There is grant money available through the WI-DOT TAP (Transportation Alternatives Program) fund in support of safe routes to school.  As this would benefit the Westwood neighborhood residents, I am in favor of a project-specific special tax assessment on our homes to help pay the town’s share of this project. I do not believe that the remainder of the town residents need to be taxed for our multi-use path. This assessment would cover the portion of the burden not paid by a state TAP grant.   I am also in favor of equal treatment for the people who live in the Spring Green Estates. There are 119 units and more coming. Many of the residents have kids who walk to school. I understand that there is a project coming for the reconstruction of Shifflet Road, which I think should at least include a wide shoulder that is pedestrian and bike safe. I also would hope it extends all the way to the Wisconsin Riverside Resort, so the summer folks can make use of it in going to town.  I understand there are a number of issues that need to be addressed between the town and the village of Spring Green related to the design and construction of the pedestrian and bike friendly pathways in the extraterritorial zone and I would strongly support efforts to resolve any stumbling blocks that crop up.   Gilbert Williams Stevens Drive Town of Spring Green
