Letters to the Editor

Dear editor, River Valley. River Valley School District. When I hear those words I think about my 10 years of enrollment, my sister graduating, my brother in sixth grade, but I also think of our absolutely wonderful music programs. From musicals, concerts, solo and ensemble, choir, band, chamber ensemble, and jazz band, we do it all. I have participated in each of these programs, and I don’t know where I would be without them. We have some phenomenal talent in our programs, but the very root of these programs is fellowship. Friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interests. That may be one definition, but in our district, it is so much more. A place you can forget about whatever’s going on. A place you can find comfort by performing and practicing with your friends. A place you can put your all into making amazing music. A place you can have fun. A place where you learn life skills that can shape your future. A place you can be you. What I want you to gather from this, is that our music programs are essential. So, I am writing to you as a student. A student without the power vote on this Referendum. I ask you to represent the students of the River Valley School District and look out for our futures. Vote Yes on the April 5th Referendum. Ryan Kane Spring Green   Dear editor, Sometimes we forget how doing something small makes a difference. I invite you to join a group that encourages people to each make a small contribution. In combining our small efforts, we make a larger impact.   In early December, 2020, I searched for a non-profit organization to donate through their Amazon Wishlist. After I picked one, I recruited our three adult children and my mom to support the organization. Together, we purchased 20 items. I realized our small contributions could make a big impact.  I wondered if I asked a few friends to support a different Wisconsin non-profit each month if we could make a difference. After contacting my friend Dianne, we started a Facebook Group called, Our Monthly Resolution. Each month, we select a small non-profit organization and encourage participants to donate. The response has been fantastic. We’d love for you to join our group.   Our March non-profit is Logan’s Hearts and Smiles.  https://www.logansheartandsmiles.org/   This organization works with families that have special needs children. They provide resources for family›s homes that will help kids throughout southern Wisconsin.  Whether it’s building a ramp, adapting a bathroom, providing a piece of furniture or something else.  Their annual fundraiser is Saturday, May 14, at The Oaks Golf Course.
