Obituary: Fred Raupp

Fred Raupp, age 84, of rural Reedsburg, died peacefully at home on June 10, 2024.

Fred was born in Buffalo Grove, IL, the son of Frank and Helen Lumpp Raupp. In 1961, he married Carla Binder. The family moved to the Reedsburg area in 1974 when Fred bought the Texaco gas station on West Main Street. He worked there until his “retirement”. Three days later he started in the maintenance department of Viking Foods in Reedsburg and worked there until his official retirement.

Fred’s passion was building race cars for the area asphalt oval tracks. In his younger days it was at Rockford Speedway and then after the move to Reedsburg, he spent most of his Saturdays at the Dells Motor Speedway. He was a professional tinkerer and could make just about anything from metal. In his later years, he enjoyed wine making, using the recipes that were passed down from his father. Fred loved to harass anyone that would listen and certainly had his own strong personal opinions. Despite his stubbornness, those who knew him found him to be a generous man who was always willing to help those in need.

Fred is survived by his wife Carla and their children: Phil (Debbie) Raupp and Amy Raupp, all of Reedsburg; Grandchildren Betsy Felty (Daniel Ghabbani) of Phoenix; Ben (Diana) Raupp of Baraboo; five Great Grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Matt (Margo) Raupp, Mary Anne Nolen, Louis (Maggie) Raupp, Fran (Ron) Richert, Jan (Dave) Geffert, Ellie (Jim) Bierman, Annette (Dave) Whitney, Barb Schriner Raupp; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings and in-laws: Bill and Joan Raupp; Marge and Jack Sullivan; Hank and Carol Raupp; Jim and Bonnie Raupp; Vivian Raupp; and Gary Whitney.

Per Fred’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
