Beyond his work, Don cherished life’s simple pleasures—fishing, hunting, woodworking, and watching classic movies. However, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, who were the center of his life.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Mert, and his children: Chucky (Melinda) Rubash, Shanen (Danielle) Rubash, Lavern (Ty) Rubash, Dolores Dahlberg, and Marlena (Darryl) Smith.
He was the proud grandfather of Landon Smith, Kaisley Smith, Kristina (Joseph) Wehrer, Cassandra (Fernando) Dahlberg, Tanner (Amber) Nadeau, Alicia (Jesse) Wickner, Deana Rubash, Gage Rubash, Charlie Rubash, Christa (Dawson) Mattox, and Amber Rubash.
Don’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Brody, Stella, Kash, Kaeden, Frankie, Vida, Nizhoni, Royal, and Skylar. He is also survived by his niece and nephews: Mary (Eric) Johannesen, Jan (Jim) Averkamp, Terry (Marcia) Lichte, and Brian (Shelley) Lichte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elsie Farber; two sisters, Donna Faye and Nancy; and his grandsons, Austin Wickner and Joseph Rubash.
Don’s family and friends will always remember him for his steadfast love, unwavering kindness, and the countless ways he enriched their lives.
A Celebration of Don’s life is planned for a future date. Details will be shared when they are available.
