Fred Lee Roy Kucera Jr. Fred Lee Roy Kucera Jr., age 87, of Cornucopia, passed away, Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn. He was born December 16,1937, in Cornucopia, the son of Fred and Lillian (Holton) Kucera. After graduating from South Shore High School Fred married Joan Bartholomew and moved to Superior to start work at the Superior Co-op. He then moved to Spring Green to work for Kramer Bros. Construction. He started and completed a masonry apprenticeship there. After many years working there, Fred started his own masonry business and built hundreds of fireplaces throughout Southern Wisconsin. His specialty was stonework. He was told by many customers that he was not a stone mason but an artist. You can drive around the area and see Fred’s artwork on display on many homes and businesses. His work will stand the test of time and will be on display for many generations to come. After 2000 Fred decided to put down his trowel, hammer and chisel and moved back home to retire. He purchased his grandparents farm in Cornucopia and remodeled it and built one last fireplace in the farmhouse. Fred’s passion was hunting and fishing. His favorite was ice fishing (bobbing) for lake trout with his fishing buddies on Lake Superior which was right across from his house. They fished every day the weather and ice would allow them. He was even featured in a book written about Lake Superior ice fishing and the tales of the fisherman that braved the big lake. The book is titled Blood on the Ice. Fred enjoyed coffee time every morning at his home with his local friends and always wanted a simple no-frills life. That’s why they made a sign for him on his driveway saying, “From this point forward everything is good enough.” Fred was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Archie, Leona, Phyllis, and Beverly. He is survived by his sister Donna (Tom) Morrison, Hastings, Minnesota; son Art (Suzannah) Kucera, Oconto, daughter Jacqueline Kucera, Spring Green; and grandchildren Cole (Emmie) Kucera, Oconto, and Courtney Kucera, Oconto.
