District administrator's corner
by Loren Glasbrenner,
River Valley School District Administrator
The end of a school year brings hope for what will happen next. Kindergartners will return to school at the elementary in Spring Green, fourth graders will move on to middle school next fall, eighth graders will nervously step in the halls of River Valley High School, and our graduates will enter new chapters of school, career, service, and life.
A poem to send our students on to their next steps…
We all walk the halls…
We stride
We dance
We slide
We run
We saunter
We trudge
We step to our own
Beat … in the sacred halls of The Valley.
On our way to each class,
We walk toward progress.
On our feet are
Our personalities
In the form of a
Sandal, tennis shoe,
Boot, or heal - perfect for any occasion.
We wear Hey Dudes, Adidas,
Chackos, Birkenstocks,
Converse, Nike, Puma, Vans,
Lariat, Carhartt and Converse … and these
Tools for our feet
Laced or buckled or formed to
Set our pace.
Our shoes like
Our experiences
Are well-worn, scuffed and well-used
Signs of age and
Progress.
We entered this journey called school
With a much smaller size
A different form
A different reality
But we leave wiser, older,
Taller and
In different shoes …
The shoes will be left behind as we grow
But the memories will remain
The knowledge and our imprints
Will stay as we walk
New hallways
Into new adventures.
Each shoe was chosen. Bought to protect
You as you grow.
“Good shoes can take you good places”
But you need to keep the pace.
Walk a mile in their shoes - they say
Or saunter
Or jog
Or slide,
Or stride,
Or dance,
Or run …
But remember the shoe is yours to wear,
The progress is yours to own,
And the journey will have many miles and
Many steps.
“As with all my friends, I wish you love and life.”
And, good shoes.
Good luck to all the students as they transition to their new path.
The River Valley School District is always here to help.
