District Administrators Corner
by Loren Glasbrenner,
River Valley School District Administrator
We have a new resource at the River Valley School District:
https://www.rvschools.org/family-community/
The actual page for Family and Community Resources on our website has been there for years, but recently it has been updated to include a Community Bulletin Board--an electronic Community Bulletin Board that we are hoping can be a great resource for families with K-12 students in the River Valley School District. For example, instead of seeing a paper flyer distributed by the school for swim lessons, you would find that information here. Currently, youth football has registration materials available.
Here is how it is going to work:
1. An outside organization wishing to distribute material on school property should submit (for approval) a copy of the material to the building principal seven (7) day(s) in advance of desired distribution.
2. We are requiring that it should include the following information:
• Name of the person or organization.
• Date(s) and time(s) of day of intended distribution.
• And somewhere on the flyer the following statement: “This organization, program or activity is not affiliated with the River Valley School District nor is it a school sponsored activity. This communication does not automatically imply District approval, support or endorsement of the information contained within this document, program or activity.”
3. Then, the school team will review, approve, and confirm the posting and make sure all information is ready. The information will be posted for two weeks. (There are also elements to posting that are not allowed. These disclaimers can be found within our new school district policy #851.)
As part of our district’s work, the River Valley School District team “... believes that the public schools belong in every sense to the people, reflect the community they serve, and can never be any stronger than the public is willing and able to make them.” We are hoping that this community resource will become an electronic library for all the great things happening for our students. The River Valley District is a tie that binds many of the events together for our families and we wanted to provide a space for sharing information for our students.
So, head to our website, click on the Family and Community Resource page, and then look left. The new “Community Bulletin Board” link is up and running. It is one of our goals to continue to foster trust and communication for our families. Let us know how we can help.
