Letter: Evangelicals have become convenient cadre of panderers

Christianity was once a bedrock of moral and ethical values, held steadfast for generations. The Ten Commandments were etched in stone.

Take Time: Birds

Birds, such varied, small and beautiful creatures, are from the hand of Almighty God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. Too frequently we haven't the time to slow down and see God's touch of beauty upon this earth.

Stanek column: This old hunter can still bag a buck

Can you believe it’s bow season already? Weren’t we all just putting on sunscreen and taking the kids to the pool?

To be honest, I completely forgot until my mom texted me this weekend with some wonderful news about my dad.

He’d shot a buck on opening day and, boy, was it a whopper: An 11-pointer.

Nature and Society: Cling to the light while it lasts

Mimi Wuest. (Submitted photo)

What a strange year this is! The hummingbirds will be leaving soon and we won't see them again for seven months. And that's a hint at what's coming, friends. Remember that season in which Mother Nature tries over and over to kill us? The season of snow and ice and darkness and even more isolation? Well, it's coming for us.

Letter: There are too many puppets in politics

Democrats got scared and decided to try and stop the investigations by declaring Trump acted illegally.

Letter: Stores contributed to poppy drive success

A huge thank you to everyone that supported our recent VFW poppy drive held over Labor Day weekend. It was a huge success. A special "Thank You" to Viking Grocery and Quillin's for allowing us to set up at their store.

Letter: You don’t have to like Trump to acknowledge his accomplishments

I’ve never really liked Donald Trump. He appeared so crass and rude!

What kind of a leader would he be for our country? When I saw how biased most of the media was, I knew I had to stop listening, start thinking for myself and learn the truth.

I watched him closely and I couldn’t believe it: He was keeping his promises!

Letter: Reverend, church do great deal of good

My five brothers and I kneeled at the front door when Father Fran was leaving after a visit.

He would bless us and say a prayer. I felt loved.

He didn’t pray we would be racists. He prayed for us to be open to tolerance.
