Nature and Society: Autumn scenery looks like something out of fantasy

We have lived in a golden world for the last week. The trees are waving us into winter with a grand celebration of color. I think the colors this year are better than I have ever seen. We drove along South Lake Road at the southern edge of Devil's Lake today and it had the magical feel of Lothlorien from “The Lord of the Rings.”

Letter: Make America gasp again

Bonito Mussolini brought fascism to Italy in the 1930s, and later aligned it with Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Fascism entails a single dictator who makes all the important decisions and promotes a cult of personality. Law and order are maintained through an authoritarian state with total control over society.
