Eagles fall at Badger Challenge

OREGON – Sauk Prairie coach Sean McGann enjoyed the opening minutes of last Saturday afternoon’s Badger Challenge boys basketball matchup against Beaver Dam. The Eagles used an early 8-0 run to take a six-point lead just 5 minutes into the game.

Heights boys split a pair

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team split a pair of games last week. The Vanguards held off Richland Center, 57-53, on Jan. 16. Heights then dropped a 63-35 decision to Cambridge on Jan. 18. The Vanguards are now 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the Capitol Conference. Here’s a recap of Heights’ week:

Eagles girls drop two of three

Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team dropped two of three games last week. Waunakee defeated the Eagles, 51-37, in the Badger Conference Challenge on Jan. 15. Sauk Prairie edged Dodgeville, 59-56, on Jan. 16, then fell to Reedsburg, 60-50, on Jan. 19. The Eagles are now 9-5 overall and 4-4 in the Badger Small Conference.

The wait was excruciating. When it ended, there was a lot to build on. Sauk Prairie’s girls gymnastics team competed for the first time in 27 days on Jan. 18 due to holidays and winter weather. And while Baraboo defeated the Eagles, 132.50-130.525, in a dual meet, Sauk Prairie took several positives from the meet.

Sauk/Heights swimmers win Platteville Invite

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team won the Platteville Invite last Saturday. The Eagles finished with 697.50 points, while Platteville/Lancaster was second with 297.0. Onalaska/Holmen/Aquinas/Luther was third (280.0), La Crosse Logan was fourth (268.50) and Auburn (Ill.) was fifth (222.0).

Eagles’ wrestlers 13th at Fort Invite

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights wrestlers finished in 13th place at the 17-team Fort Atkinson Invite last Saturday. Iowa Grant won the team title with 443.0 points. The Eagles finished with 164.0. Sauk Prairie’s top finisher was Logan McIntyre, who finished fourth at 215 pounds. Here’s how all of the Eagles fared:

Eagles’ hockey wins two of three

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team — consisting of players from Sauk Prairie, Mount Horeb, Barneveld, River Valley and Wisconsin Heights — won two of three games last week. Sun Prairie defeated the Eagles, 6-0, on Jan. 16. But Sauk Prairie rebounded and defeated McFarland, 4-3, last Friday and downed Stevens Point Pacelli, 7-2, last Saturday.
