Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team drops two of three

It was an up and down week for Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team. The Eagles fell to Lodi, 61-52, on Jan. 30. Sauk Prairie rebounded with an 80-70 win over McFarland on Feb. 2. The Eagles then lost to La Crosse Central, 64-51, last Saturday. Sauk Prairie is now 10-8 on the year and 6-3 in the Badger Small Conference.

Volleyball expanding to five divisions

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control authorized the Tournament Series format to accommodate a fifth division of girls volleyball in 2024 and approved plans for a student leadership program at its January meeting.

Swimmers 2nd at conference

Sauk Prairie’s boys swimming team finished in second place at the six-team Badger Small Conference tournament last Saturday. McFarland won the team title with 559 points, while the Eagles were second at 405. Baraboo (296), Madison Edgewood (290), Stoughton (277) and Mount Horeb (93) rounded out the six-team field.

Hockey team tops Viroqua

Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team rolled past Viroqua, 6-1, on Feb. 1. The Eagles — who have players from Barneveld, Mount Horeb, River Valley and Wisconsin Heights — improved to 15-8 on the year.

Wisconsin Heights boys drop a pair

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team has gone streaking — in the wrong direction. The Vanguards dropped a pair of games last week and their losing streak has now reached five games. Heights fell to host Barneveld, 60-37, on Jan. 30. The Vanguards also dropped an 80-51 decision to visiting Belleville last Friday.

Wisconsin Heights girls drop three of four

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team dropped three of four games last week. The Vanguards defeated Pardeeville, 46-37, on Jan. 29. Heights then fell to Monroe, 50-41, on Jan. 30, dropped a 77-32 decision to New Glarus on Feb. 1 and lost to Belleville, 66-49, on Feb, 2. Heights is now 4-13 on the season and 1-6 in the Capitol South Conference.

The River Valley High School varsity girls wrestling team had three competitions this past week, including a first for Valley. River Valley co-head coach Dan Machovec detailed Friday night, “The first EVER girls SWC/SWAL Conference Clash took place in Dodgeville.

The River Valley High School varsity boys wrestling team had two competitions this past week. Thursday night was a dual meet for the boys in Waterloo that River Valley won 39-37.

Girls basketball team takes home a win

The River Valley High School girls basketball team had three games this past week. They started the week off in Riverdale on Tuesday night. River Valley jumped out to a 18-5 lead to start the game.  The halftime score was 37-18 River Valley.

River Valley/ Barneveld gymnasts perform at home

The River Valley/ Barneveld (RVB) gymnasts had a week of competition at home this past week. Monday night the girls hosted a conference dual against Prairie du Chien/ Fennimore, which the home team lost 126.575-107.675.
