A successful boys hockey season for the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston high school co-op was recognized recently at the team’s end of season awards banquet.

RAHS sophomore Ellie Vielhuber got to experience the WIAA Gymnastics State Meet for the first time on Saturday. Vielhuber was one of five gymnasts that qualified for the State Meet in Wis. Rapids in the balance beam competition from the WIAA D-2 Sectional held in Reedsburg on Feb.
Six members of the River Valley Blackhawks girls basketball squad have received All-Conference recognition for this season as the Southwest Wisconsin Conference has announced this year’s All-Conference team.
The River Valley Blackhawks boys basketball won a regular season game at SWC Tri-Champion Platteville and lost at the buzzer at home against the Hillmen, so they took some confidence into their opening round WIAA Playoff game last Tuesday as the 11-seed Blackhawks played at six-seed Platteville in D-3 Regional play.
Weston saw its boys basketball season come to a close last Tuesday with a 77-44 loss at state-ranked North Crawford in WIAA D-5 Regional play. It was North Crawford’s third win over the Silver Eagles this season, but this matchup was by far the most competitive of the three contests but Weston ends the season at 4-18 overall.
Reedsburg opened the boys basketball pre-season against a familiar foe last Tuesday, the Baraboo Thunderbirds. The long-time conference rivals are not conference rivals this year in hoops with Baraboo a member of Badger Large this season with Reedsburg still in Badger Small.
RAHS senior Brayden Klemp will represent the Reedsburg Beaver Football program at this summer’s Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star games at UW-Oshkosh. Klemp will be 1 of 9 offensive lineman on the Large Schools North roster after earning All-Conference first-team honors along the offensive line for a Reedsburg team that set school records for rushing yards and points scored in a season that saw Reedsburg advance to the WIAA D-3 State Championship game. Monday certainly felt like spring this week with temps in the 60’s and even 70’s and so perhaps it was appropriate that Monday was the first day of the spring sports season for area high schools as track and field athletes kicked off the pre-season workout schedule.
River Valley played the role of spoiler while also playing, arguably, its best game of the boys basketball season last Thursday night. The Flying Arrows of Lancaster were a win away from the outright conference championship in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference but the visiting River Valley Blackhawks and Coach Luke Thatcher had other ideas.
