Wrestlers notch two wins

First-year head wrestling coach Matt Gaffney has had his share of ups and downs during a rollercoaster season for the Sauk Prairie wrestling team. But there was some light at the end of the tunnel last week after the Eagles swept a pair of Badger North Conference duals following an 0-3 start to the league dual-meet season.

Heights girls split two games

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team has played 13 games this season. The Vanguards haven’t won more than two games in a row, or lost more than two straight. Heights continued that up-and-down pattern last week when it dropped a 42-39 decision to visiting Cambridge last Tuesday, then followed that with a 66-55 win at Waterloo last Friday.

Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights moved one step closer to winning its fourth consecutive Badger North Conference boys swimming title with a convincing 126-44 victory over visiting DeForest on Senior Night and Youth Night on Jan. 14.

Heights survives a wild week

It was a wild week for Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team. The Vanguards dropped a 64-55 decision to defending WIAA Division 4 state champion New Glarus last Thursday. Heights then rebounded with a thrilling 64-59 double overtime win over Palmyra-Eagle last Saturday. Heights is now 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Capitol Conference.

Eagles’ hockey team splits a pair

The Sauk Prairie co-op hockey team earned a split in a pair of Badger North Conference games last week. Following a 2-0 loss at home against Waunakee on Jan. 7 and a 5-0 victory at the DeForest co-op last Friday, the Eagles aspirations of a conference championship took a major hit.

Swimmers cruise past Baraboo

Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights swimming coach Todd Wuerger likes the progress his squad has been making this season. That was evident in the Eagles’ return to Badger North Conference competition after a five-week break when Sauk Prairie swamped host Baraboo 107-63 in a league dual at Jack Young Middle School on Jan. 7.

Heights girls split

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team split a pair of games last week. The Vanguards defeated New Glarus, 56-52 in their Southern Capitol Conference opener last Thursday. Heights also dropped a 72-48 decision to Dodgeville last Tuesday. Heights improved to 5-6 overall and is 1-0 in the league.
