Vanguards hold off Barneveld

The ball hung in the air for what felt like forever. And Wisconsin Heights boys basketball coach Zack Colby and the Vanguards held their collective breath. Heights led host Barneveld, 62-61, in the final seconds last Thursday. And the Eagles got a terrific look at a potential game-winning shot.

Sauk Prairie hockey team rolls

Following a two-week holiday break, the Sauk Prairie co-op hockey team got off to a slow start last Friday night. Seniors Camden Desroches and Riley Jelinek each recorded a hat trick, though, to rally the Eagles to an 8-2 victory over visiting McFarland in a non-conference game at the Sauk Prairie Area Recreation Center Ice Arena.

Eagles’ girls fall to Beaver Dam

Junior guard Naomi Breunig scored a team-high 13 points, but the Eagles lost a Badger North Conference game to the host Beaver Dam Golden Beavers 80-44 last Friday night. The Golden Beavers came out on fire, sprinting out to an early 17-4 lead and never looked back.

It was all about quality and not quantity when Sauk Prairie hosted its annual Eagle Invitational last Saturday. Sauk Prairie saved its best for last as seniors Marcus Hankins, Simon Patterson and Austin Rider closed out the final three weight classes of the meet on top off the podium as tournament champions.

Heights girls split a pair

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team rolled over Poynette, 53-32, last Saturday. The Vanguards also dropped a 67-56 decision to Lodi last Thursday. Heights is now 4-4 overall and has yet to play a conference game.
