Weston looked to be the team in Ridge and Valley Conference Baseball for most of the season and it looked as though they would win a conference title in the sport for the first time since 1997.

Coach Jane Briehl’s River Valley softball squad picked up another win in conference play with some of the best softball of the season in a 5-3 win over Platteville last Tuesday. R-V found themselves down 3-1 in the fourth inning but rallied with a three spot in their half of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

River Valley High School has not won a conference title in girls soccer since 2015 but they enter this week on the verge of doing so after last week’s 4-0 win over Richland Center, raising the league mark to 7-0-1 for the Blackhawks in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference.

River Valley has their full lineup in place now as they look to this week’s Southwest Wisconsin Conference Meet and they take some momentum into the week after the best showing of the season last week.

River Valley was one of 21 schools in action at Friday’s Sparky Reynolds Invite in Boscobel with the Blackhawk track and field athletes gearing up and honing in on their skills one final time before this week’s SWC Meet in Dodgeville.

Regular season play came to a close for the season on Monday, May 12, for the Reedsburg Beaver Boys Golf team as they were part of a 21-team field at Wild Rock, near Wisconsin Dells in one final tune-up before tournament season.

Reedsburg couldn’t have had things go much better in their Sunday League opener in Home Talent Baseball over the weekend as the Pirates rolled to a 20-6 victory over visiting Waunakee at Nishan Park.

Middleton’s Home Talent League team opened the season with an 8-1 win over visiting Sauk Prairie on Sunday.

Brady Schmitt threw seven scoreless innings and picked up the win. Schmitt allowed just two hits, struck out eight and walked two.

Drew Farrell and Zach Thomas both threw an inning in relief.

It’s the hottest stretch of the season for the Reedsburg Beaver softball team and it’s coming at a real good time with the WIAA Playoffs just around the corner.
