Last week was National Newspaper Week. Though it is not likely a holiday you celebrated, we are fortunate to still have several local papers in our area. According to a 2024 report by the Northwestern University Local News Initiative, since 2005 a third of all rural small town newspapers have closed.
It was a bittersweet reunion with my dear old social work friends last weekend. The seven of us have been getting together at least twice a year for 55 years, since we met at the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. We have really shared our lives together, so I got to live six other lives along with my own.

October 18th’s No King’s rally in Dodgeville was a great event! It was sunny and perfect weather. 800+ people of all ages and towns around the region attended. It was so well organized in coordination with our county sheriff and supported by over 10 designated volunteer trained peacekeepers and additional policemen.
On October 18, nearly 7,000,000 people across our country gathered peacefully to celebrate our democracy by taking part in No Kings marches. In Wisconsin, there were marches in 94 towns, villages and cities.
