This rain is such a blessing. I know it's gloomy and muddy and we miss the sun. But the earth really needs a lot of rain this spring. We got very little snow over the winter and if we don't recharge the land with water now, we could face a drought year.
Last night I had the opportunity to attend Sauk Prairie Middle School’s wonderful variety show. Even more impressively, I understand that the program was put together on short notice. This community should be proud of its schools, teachers, and students.
When we were children, we both loved going to our local public libraries. If our parents wondered where we were, chances were pretty good that they could find us in the corner of the library, nose in a book, mind traveling on a new adventure found in its pages.

It’s pretty neat when the Valley gets national attention, which happened twice recently. Jake O’ from Plain appeared on the television program American Song Contest. (I’m the process of interviewing him about it.) Nina’s Department and Variety Store was the second one.
Optimism in the face of tragedy
Esther Earl wrote only one book during her lifetime because she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age twelve and died four years later. Her book is called “This Star Won’t go Out” and describes her life and thoughts.
