Are you holding the newspaper right now? Give it a little shake. Hold it up and take a close look at it. This paper is a rare and precious thing! This newspaper is an endangered resource, one of the last of the local newspapers. Most "local" papers have been bought up by large newspaper chains.

Gas prices have us all swinging between worry and anger, and there’s plenty of blame to go around—but that’s not the focus of this column. I’m more concerned with the far-reaching impact of these prices.

The world is unfolding rapidly and in disturbing ways. A cruel and brutal war is laying waste to a beautiful young democracy, a country with a long, rich history of culture and art. Here in America, efforts are being made to roll back human rights and voting rights, as well. And now I am told that money may soon be obsolete!
