Joe was resigned to live the rest of his life in despair. His wife had begged him to get help for his alcoholism throughout their marriage. Now she was gone and so was any opportunity to make up for being a lousy husband and father. It was too late.

In recent years, the news business in Wisconsin has seen a lot of bad news. Dozens of newspapers have closed. Revenues are way down. Staffs are being trimmed. And “vulture” hedge funds are circling, threatening to pick clean the bones of this once robust industry.

Eric Idle once advised against watching the news. He instead suggested we do things we enjoy.

He’s partially correct. There’s a lot of bad journalism, editorials, squawking and mud-slinging masquerading as “news” nowadays. Consumers need a discerning eye and a functioning bologna meter.
