August 29, 2021 marks three years since flooding devastated many communities across the 17th Senate District in August 2018. The flooding caused immense damage to homes, businesses, roads and trails.

Life is filled with exchanges. Employees exchange 40 hours for a paycheck. Fans exchange $40 for a seat at the game (and then exchange another $10 for a hotdog and drink)! Every day we exchange time, money, effort and emotion for what we hope brings us joy, peace and satisfaction.

One of my relatives recently commented on the number of events we have here in Reedsburg.

“You’ve got something going every weekend!” she said.

We are fortunate to have not only business and groups that sponsor events but also doers who schedule fun outings. For a community our size, there’s a plethora of entertainment options.

Oh, friends, what has happened to us? In the America I believe in, we care about each other and we particularly care about each other's kids. When did other people's kids stop mattering? I worry that we are losing our souls.

John D. Rockefeller was one of the richest men in the world. An interviewer once asked him, “How much money is enough?” Rockefeller replied, “Just a little bit more.”

An anti-immigration fellow from La Valle often gives me free publicity in his letters to the editor, as he did in the Aug. 12 Reedsburg Independent. He admitted up front that he has never met me, but then he proceeded to describe me disparagingly and in some detail, as if he has.

If we were all deaf-mute, teaching would take on a whole new set of intercommunications mechanics. Information exchanges would most certainly be a radical removal from all things traditional. The mind would have to leverage the other and remaining human senses and physical appointments to get concepts from points A to points B, C, D, etc.
