Eagles’ spikers hope for postseason magic

Sauk Prairie’s girls volleyball team takes a big step up this postseason. But the Eagles believe they’re more than ready to handle it. Sauk Prairie, which reached the state tournament in 2020 and 2022, was moved from Division 2 to Division 1 this year due to the WIAA’s tournament performance factor.

Swimmers fall to Vikings

Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming team was edged by Mount Horeb, 86-84, in a Badger Small Conference meet on Oct. 15. Sauk Prairie’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kaylee Oleson, Kate Himebauch, Ava Flanagan and Alyssa Himebauch were first, while the quartet of Gracia Bare, Natalie Klein, Natalie Ballweg and Ava Handschke was third.

Soccer Eagles earn No. 2 seed

They’ve gotten better every game, every week. And now, they hope to make some postseason noise. Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team finished the regular season with a 5-0 dismantling of Mount Horeb and head to the playoffs with some momentum.

Heights spikers receive No. 8 seed

Bring on the postseason. The Wisconsin Heights girls volleyball team received a No. 8 seed in their WIAA Division 4 sectional and hosted ninth-seeded Iowa-Grant in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Heights’ Caminiti wins conference crown

Kirk Caminiti won the Capitol South Conference cross country championship last Saturday and almost carried his Vanguards team to a title, as well. Caminiti won the individual championship, completing the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 24.3 seconds. That was 27 seconds faster than runner-up Ayden Wilkins of New Glarus/Monticello.

The final home game of the season for the Wonewoc-Center/Weston Silverwolves co-op football team was also the Homecoming game at Weston High School in a rare Friday night contest for that annual event.

Martinez, Dunse earn top 5 finishes for Beaver cross country at Riverdale Invite

Reedsburg ran one of its best boys races of the cross country season Saturday in Muscoda as the Beavers performed well at the Riverdale Invite.

In a field of 19 full teams, Reedsburg placed third in the boys team scoring in a grouping of mostly smaller schools.
