Shane Frey knew his Sauk Prairie boys golf team would be improved this season. But even Frey — the Eagles’ veteran coach — was pleasantly surprised with what he saw on April 11. The Eagles went to the Monona Grove Invite at The Oaks, shot a sensational 309 and finished eighth at the 24-team invite.

The girls soccer season has just begun. But Sauk Prairie coach Drew Kornish believes he could look back on April 11 as a signature moment in the Eagles’ year. Sauk Prairie went to Division 1 power Madison Memorial and toppled the Spartans, 1-0. The Eagles also defeated Stoughton, 5-2, on April 9 and improved to 3-1 on the young season.

Sauk Prairie’s boys lacrosse team split a pair of games last week. The Eagles dropped a 13-1 decision to Madison Edgewood on April 9. Sauk Prairie then cruised to an 8-0 win over Watertown on April 11. It’s been a rough start to the season for Sauk Prairie’s baseball team. The Eagles lost all four of their games last week and fell to 1-6 on the young season. Here’s a recap of Sauk Prairie’s week: • Platteville 5, Sauk Prairie 3 — Marty Hanna, Boden Frosch and Brason Ballweg all had RBI in a losing effort for the Eagles on April 8.

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld track and field teams performed well, but both dropped close contests with Belleville/New Glarus on April 9. The Vanguards’ boys dropped a 91-66 decision, while the Heights/Barneveld girls lost, 94-59. Heights/Barneveld’s top performers on the boys’ side included:

Wisconsin Heights’ baseball team got off to a rough start, dropping their first four games of the season. The Vanguards broke into the win column on April 11, though, defeating Poynette, 10-2. Heights is now 1-4 on the young season. Here’s a recap of the Vanguards’ past week:

Avery Graham and Wisconsin Heights’ girls softball team are off to an 0-7 start. The Vanguards lost four games last week, starting with an 8-0 setback against Lodi on April 9.  Waterloo defeated the Vanguards, 20-0, on April 11, then Sauk Prairie edged Heights, 9-8, on April 12 and Big Foot defeated Heights, 16-7, on April 13.  

Sauk Prairie’s girls track and field team finished in third place at the 13-team Badger Challenge on April 9. The Eagles’ boys were ninth. “Our teams competed very well,” Eagles coach Andy Sherman said. “Both teams showed a lot of potential and a lot to be excited about.  I cannot wait to see how the rest of the season plays out.

Sauk Prairie’s boys tennis team is still looking for a branch of consistency to hold onto. But the Eagles are making gains. Oregon defeated the Eagles, 7-0, on April 9. Sauk Prairie fell to 0-5 on the young season. “We saw a lot of improvement in our doubles teams and had many great points throughout the night,” Eagles coach Morgan Lee said.
