Reedsburg School Board President Gary Woolever gave another resonant speech at this year’s graduation ceremony. One statement stuck with me: “Practice gratitude.” I thought about that on Monday and realized there’s a lot to be grateful for here. So who cares if Turkey Day is far on the horizon?
Leave it! Let it go! Let it grow! One man's weed is a butterfly's buffet. One woman's brushpile is a song bird's home. If you have no pressing need to remove the plant or the flower or the shrub or the tree, leave it, just leave it.
I’ve been thinking a lot about our democracy lately. Specifically, the final phrase of our Pledge of Allegiance: “indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We all take a lot of pride in our country, stand for, and proudly recite the Pledge of Allegiance. But do we really believe in it?
We have just witnessed the fourth mass shooting in as many weeks. This time it took the lives of 19 fourth graders in Texas. Those kids were locked inside their classroom along with two teachers and were murdered in front of each other. Let that sink in. The horror.
In the beginning, the American population was 100-percent indigenous. Now Native Americans are only 2.09 percent. I wonder if they believe the so-called “Great Replacement” is already long over with?
