RWD blanks Milton to earn split in 2 conference games

The Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston boys hockey co-op had not played a game at RACA in Reedsburg since Dec. 20 until last Thursday when Waunakee paid a visit for a Badger Conference matchup. Waunakee was in control from the outset on the way to an 8-1 win.

Eagles’ swimmers make a splash

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team won the Platteville-Lancaster Invitational last Saturday. The Eagles finished with 689 points, while La Crosse Central/Logan was second with 425. Onalaska/Holmen/Aquinas/Luther was third with 359 points, while Platteville/Lancaster was fourth at 323.

Sauk Prairie’s boys rally past Milton

They were down, but never out. They were weary, but never KO’d. Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team rallied from a seven-point second half deficit — including a four-point hole in the final two minutes — and edged Milton, 70-67, in double overtime at the Badger Challenge held at Monona Grove High School last Saturday.

Eagles’ girls hoping to heat up

The postseason is approaching quickly. And Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team would love to get on a roll. The Eagles took a step in that direction last week, cruising past McFarland, 61-34, on Jan. 23 for their third straight win. Waunakee ended Sauk Prairie’s streak, though, with a 59-37 win over the Eagles last Saturday.

Wisconsin Heights girls drop a pair

The effort was terrific. The results fell just short. Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team gave visiting Marshall and host New Glarus all they could handle last week. In the end, though, the Vanguards couldn’t steal a win. Marshall edged the Vanguards, 42-35, on Jan. 17, then New Glarus nipped Heights, 53-48, on Jan. 18.

Marshall’s boys roll past Vanguards

The start was rough. And things didn’t get much better. Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team fell behind, 14-0, and never recovered during a 75-48 loss to Marshall on Jan. 24. Heights fell to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the Capitol South Conference. Marshall improved to 11-3, 3-0.

Eagles’ wrestlers 9th at Fort Atkinson

Sauk Prairie’s wrestlers finished in ninth place at the 16-team Fort Atkinson Invite last Saturday. Sycamore won the invite with 390 points, while the Eagles finished with 208.5. Here’s how Sauk Prairie fared at each weight class:   106 — Max Schroeder (29-3) placed 2nd and scored 37.5 team points.

Sauk Prairie gymnasts get the better of Baraboo

Sauk Prairie’s girls gymnastics team was missing Claire Hartman — one of its top performers — due to sickness last Friday. But the Eagles didn’t miss a beat. Sauk Prairie got terrific performances up and down the lineup and defeated Baraboo, 132.275-128.875.
