Beaver wrestlers face tough competition at River Valley

The schedule showed a dual meet and an Invite in less than 24 hours over the weekend for the Reedsburg Beaver Wrestlers with Portage coming to RAHS for a conference dual Friday night followed by Saturday’s River Valley Invite in Spring Green.

Sauk Prairie rolls past Edgewood

MADISON — Four wins in the span of five games — with the only loss coming to now Division 2 No. 1 Mount Horeb — left the Sauk Prairie boys basketball team feeling good about the way things were heading. The good vibes didn’t last. The Eagles next two contests were lopsided defeats, both by 25 points while allowing an average of 74.5 points.

OREGON — When opportunity knocked last Saturday, Macee Gulden answered with a career performance for Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team. The reserve senior forward came off the bench and posted her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Heights boys notch a pair of wins

Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team won both of their games last week. The Vanguards defeated Madison Country Day, 61-58, in overtime on Jan. 14. Heights also downed Waterloo, 61-52, on Jan. 16. Heights improved to 5-7 overall and is 1-1 in the Capitol South Conference. Here’s a recap of the Vanguards’ week:

Vanguards’ girls drop two of three

It was a tough week for Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team, as the Vanguards dropped two of three games. Heights defeated Juda, 48-39, on Jan. 13. The Vanguards then fell to Cambridge, 62-27, on Jan. 14 and dropped a 42-35 decision to Marshall on Jan. 17. Heights is now 7-5 overall and 0-3 in the Capitol South Conference.

Sauk/Heights swimmers 7th at Middleton Invitational

The Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights swimmers finished in seventh place at the 10-team Middleton Cardinal Relays last Saturday. Host Middleton finished first with 243 points, while Verona was second (154) and Madison West was third (151). The Eagles finished with 66 points.

Eagles’ hockey team rolls off two wins

The Sauk Prairie co-op hockey team had a terrific week, winning a pair of games. The Eagles — who also have skaters from Mount Horeb, Wisconsin Heights, Barneveld and River Valley — defeated Sun Prairie, 2-1, in double overtime on Jan. 14. Sauk Prairie also rolled past the La Crosse Avalanche, 4-1, on Jan. 17.

Eagles’ gymnastics team upended by Mount Horeb

Sauk Prairie’s girls gymnastics team has improved by leaps and bounds in recent years. But the Eagles found out last week they still have work to do before they catch juggernaut Mount Horeb. The Vikings downed the Eagles, 137.8750-131.10, in a Badger Conference meet on Jan. 14.
