Weston made a magical run last year in the baseball post-season, winning three road games as the underdog to claim a Regional title before eventual state champion Ithaca ended their season at the Sectional level.
Sauk Prairie has built one of the elite girls soccer programs in the state in recent years.
Now, to be the best, the Eagles will have to beat the best.
Sauk Prairie won a WIAA Division 2 regional championship last Saturday thanks to a 1-0 win over DeForest.
Shane Frey knew the task was monumental.
That his Sauk Prairie’s boys golf team would need to have their best round of the year, while some other teams struggled.
In the end, that didn’t happen.
The field was deep and remarkably gifted.
And Sauk Prairie track and field standout MariElla Viola showed she belonged.
Now, after an impressive showing at the WIAA Division 1 state track and field meet last weekend at Veterans Stadium in La Crosse, Viola should be poised for even bigger and better things in 2025.
They had chances to spring a monumental upset.
They had opportunities to shock the prep baseball world.
In the end, though, Sauk Prairie’s baseball team fell just short.
Sauk Prairie’s Home Talent League team notched a pair of wins last week.
The Twins defeated Reedsburg, 12-2, on Memorial Day. Sauk Prairie then toppled Cazenovia, 8-3, on Sunday.
Sauk Prairie is now 3-0 and tied for first place in the Northern Section with Cross Plains (3-0).
Weston made a memorable WIAA Baseball Tournament run last year with three Regional wins on the road as underdogs and this post-season began for the Silver Eagles with a home game, and a win over Kickapoo 4-0 in a matchup of conference rivals last Thursday in Cazenovia.
